Hi, my name is Marlyn from the University of Greenwich, London. I just completed my 1-year internship with AMSI (Aug 2005 – Aug 2006), in which I believe my time was well spent. I moved around within the company during the year, starting at the Front Desk, followed by assisting the Furnished Reservations Team, and ending in the best place of all, the Special Services Dept. I gained such valuable, professional international experience and I acquired many new skills, including; business, communication, IT, time management.
Being in a new country, in new surroundings is daunting at first, but I assure you it can also be very refreshing if you welcome the new cultures and retain an open mind. My advice to new or potential interns would be to make the most of your internship! Assist on Tuesday Tours, attend networking events, build good relationships with the other interns, and use your time efficiently to learn from the knowledge and experiences of the very intelligent individuals that work at AMSI. Being able to multi-task is a MUST! AMSI is very family oriented, and they promote excellent teamwork. San Francisco is very diverse, full of culture and a great city to work in. After experiencing SF and the Bay Area, I am now determined to return back in the future to buy my very own high-rise condo in the Marina! Overall, my time in San Francisco and with AMSI has been an experience of a lifetime! After completing my internship, I have returned back to London to finish my studies at University. I intend to graduate in the summer of 2007, with a BA (Hons) in International Business. The reason I took a year out to fulfill an internship is because I believe it is extremely important to accompany theory with practice, which ultimately makes you more marketable once you graduate. I wish you all the best…
